Lincoln, NE – The Nebraska State Patrol and the Nebraska Department of Transportation are still cleaning up roads and highways after Saturday’s blizzard swept through eastern Nebraska.
The Nebraska State Patrol reports that many are injured after numerous crashes occurred throughout the state. An estimated 30 vehicles, including 15 semis, where involved in a particular accident near York, NE. Over 100 vehicles where left stranded on Interstate 80 while authorities worked to clear the crash. Interstate 80 between Grand Island and Gretna remained closed for much of Saturday and Sunday.
In another accident near Aurora, at least 50 vehicles were left stranded behind a 15 vehicle pileup, involving 10 semis. Another crash involving 25 vehicles, including 15 semis, occurred near Waverly. No significant injuries were reported in the Waverly crash.
The Nebraska Department of Transportation announced on Twitter that Interstate 80 is now open. However, roads in some areas are still covered in snow and crews are continuing to clear roads and highways.
