NSAA Moves to Substate Format for Most Basketball Classes

LINCOLN — The format for most Nebraska high school basketball teams looking to qualify for the state tournament is changing.

The NSAA Board of Directors passed a change expanding the “substate” postseason format to Classes C-1, C-2, D-1 and D-2.  The format is already in use in Class B.

The new format takes all 12 subdistrict winners and the next four teams in the wildcard standings and re-seeds them based on wildcard points for one more round before the state tournament.  The eight winners of the substate round will go on to Lincoln.

“There’s going to be some challenges with travel, with distance,” NSAA Assistant Director and Supervisor of Officials Jon Dolliver said.  “Overall, I know in Class B in basketball and Class C volleyball it’s been a positive impact on not only the district finals but the state tournament as well.”

The NSAA Board also approved the rescheduling of the State Dual Wrestling Meet to the weekend before districts.  This will be the weekend of February 2nd for 2018-19.
