NEBRASKA CITY – Nebraska City High School students Macy Neumiester and Mackenzi Berglund are completing a S.T.A.R. project for their local chapter. The project is a part of the national organization, FCCLA (Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America).
S.T.A.R. (Students Taking Action with Recognition) projects allow students to advocate for change or to show off their skills. Their chapter service project is titled “Kids Helping Kids.”
The two have been accepting donations the past few months to create care packages for children and their families at Children’s Hospital and Medical Center of Omaha.
The two found inspiration for their project from past experiences.
Berglund: “I personally relate to this project. It’s just my own personal experience not having a package prepared to go to the hospital if there was an emergency. So just knowing that you can help out those families and having things there for them when they might not. It’s just really easy on them.”
Before competing at the district level, they delivered 18 care packages. They wish to donate 50 total care packages to Children’s before their state competition in April.
They’re collecting items for the care packages until the end of March. If interested in make a donation, please drop them off in the main office at Nebraska City High School. They’re looking for personal hygiene products and toy donations. Donations must be new and not used items.
