Missouri River Sets New High Mark For September

NEBRASKA CITY – The Missouri River has reached its highest level ever for September at Nebraska City. The river reached 13 feet in 1979 and 18 feet in September of 1989, but crested Thursday at 21.7 feet. This week’s high is  1.5 feet below the June high earlier this year and 6.5 feet below the high water mark of 2011. The river is forecast to crest nearly four feet above flood stage at Plattsmouth. The road to the water treatment plant and fields west of the dock road are flooding. The river reached moderate flood stage at Brownville at 38.5 feet with water approaching the access road to the Cooper Nuclear Station. The river is forecast to reach moderate flood stage at Rulo, flooding the boat ramp and agricultural low lands. There is moderate flooding of the Big Sioux River upstream.
