Interstate and Most Highways Reopened

NORTH PLATTE, NE — Travelers are getting back on the road Thursday night after the main highways and interstates were shut down today in central Nebraska.

Interstate 80 was initially shut down before noon from Lexington to North Platte. The Nebraska State Patrol later closed the road starting in Kearney and eventually cut it off as far east as Grand Island. US Highway 30, which follows a similar path as I-80, was also shut down.

As the storm blew through and crews cleared the roads, authorities re-opened the Interstate before 8:00 PM. The Interstate and highways in central and eastern Nebraska are still listed as partially or completely covered with ice by the Nebraska Department of Transportation.
