SYRACUSE – Syracuse Area Health held a grand opening for its new hospital Thursday afternoon.
Hospital President Michael Harvey said the new 73,000-square-foot facility, which includes a health clinic, was needed as hospital services expanded and the number of employees grew from 70 to 145.
Harvey: “With that growth our prior campus became landlocked and prohibitive to any future growth. With this new campus, we now have the ability to grow well into the future and provide services to the generations to come.”
State Sen. Dan Watermeier credited the hospital for $1.5 million raised locally and Foundation Board Chairwoman Deb McWilliams thanked the hospital auxiliary for a $250,000 donation that spearheaded fund raising.
Lt. Gov. Mike Foley was among dignitaries attending the grand opening.
Foley: “You can be very, very proud of what you have accomplished. I think Syracuse has truly hit a home run with this magnificent, new facility.”
City Councilman Orv Gigstad recognized local, state and USDA Rural Development contributions.
Gigstad: “We like to brag that this is a great place to live. It’s a great place to raise a family, but I got to thinking, if there were a chart that could rank these small towns, that today Syracuse would have rocketed to the top with the opening of this new hospital.”
Board President Gerald Siefken noted that he feels discipline in planning kept the cost per square foot of $29.3 million hospital down.
He said the hospital will be accepting patients in 10 days.
