Gold medal champion, Tomasevicz, shares Olympic story with Peru State students

PERU - Former Nebraska football player and Olympic bobsledding champion Curt Tomasevicz explored how support from his hometown of Shelby, Neb. and overcoming fear helped define his three Olympic appearances Tuesday at Peru State College. His presentation, "Have No Fear," was part of the college's "Distinguished Speaker Series" and focused on his personal growth as an athlete, his time with the Cornhuskers and training for the Olympics. “I was 23 years old and I knew nothing about bobsledding. I had seen Cool Runnings, but that was about it,” Tomasevicz said. He went on to win two Olympic medals. In 2010 at the Vancouver games, Tomasevicz, the late Steve Holcomb, Justin Olsen, and Steve Mesler raced the “Night Train” to the first American four-man Olympic title in 62 years. Tomasevicz took bronze four years later in Sochi. Tomasevicz is now an engineering professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a researcher in the Nebraska Athletic Performance Lab. He recently completed his PhD in engineering. Peru State established the Distinguished Speaker Series in fall 2010 as part of its commitment to student engagement and success.
