Flooding causes evacuations in some central NE communities

DANNEBROG, NE – (News Channel Nebraska) – Central Nebraska Communities are reeling from flooding as well.

Multiple areas of Howard County were hit hard by the storm that began Wednesday morning, dropping rain that turned to snow and blizzard conditions overnight and continuing into Thursday.

Howard County emergency officials told the Grand Island Independent that water was sitting about six inches deep in downtown Dannebrog Thursday morning.

The community had a voluntary evacuation Wednesday night. A shelter was opened in Boelus and eight individuals left their homes to stay there. Woiltalewicz said other people also evacuated homes to stay with family and friends as nearby rivers and creeks began to swell.
