Fast moving water approaching Thurman, Iowa, evacuation operations underway

THURMAN, Ia – Evacuation operations are underway in Thurman, according to the National Weather Service office in Omaha. City officials are urging residents to evacuate immediately.

According to the weather service, fast moving water was approaching the southwest Iowa town and is likely the result of a levee breaches in the area.

The south end of Hamburg, Percival, McPaul and Bartlett are other southwest Iowa towns that have already evacuated because of flooding from the Missouri River.

A Red Cross storm shelter has been set up at Marnie Simons Elementary School, 309 S Street in Hamburg, IA.

The entire region remains in a flash flood warning until 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
