Community Custody Crew Aids In Flood Cleanup

ASHLAND – A road crew from the Community Corrections Center in Lincoln recently wrapped up their flood relief efforts at the Nebraska National Guard training site at Camp Ashland.

After seeing damage at Camp Ashland from the historic flooding, the National Guard submitted a request to provide a crew at the base.

The team of around 16 men, supervised by Corporal David Colling, made the trip daily from Lincoln correctional facilities since March, with everything needed for eight-hour workdays.

Over the past several weeks, members of the road crew have cleared buildings, moved damaged furniture, ripped out dry wall, collected equipment for salvage and cleaned up debris.

The base will reopen in stages, starting in a few weeks.
