Central Announces New Women’s Basketball Coach

COLUMBUS - Central Community College has announced that Billy Perkins will be taking over women's basketball operations, in place of Mike Kroupa. Kroupa took a coaching job at Cedar Bluffs High School, leaving Central after the 2016-17 season. Perkins says, "What a privilege it is to be named as head coach of CCC women's basketball. It is an honor to be able to work with the people I'm working with and to be a part of a family and this college community." Perkins has coached for 19 years at various high schools in Texas, and has won over 200 games throughout his career, says CCC. His most recent season was spent at Iowa Park High School, who he led to the postseason, says CCC. Central says that Perkins grew up in Columbia, South America, whee his family was serving as missionaries. Perkins graduated from high school in Texas, and later earned his Master's degrees in both Education and Administration, says Central. Perkins lives with his wife Celesta in Platte Center, along with their four children, Tesema, Malia, Leialani, and Faitau, ages 9-3. The team opens up their season Thursday night at home, against Mounty Marty's JV squad, starting at 6 p.m.
