Beatrice’s Cameron Jurgens has been committed to Nebraska for more than two years, but he’s considering other options in the wake of Mike Riley’s firing.

The 6-foot-3, 240-pound senior made an official visit to LSU over the weekend and saw the Tigers defeat Texas A&M on Saturday night. LSU has consistently recruited Jurgens despite his commitment to the Huskers.

Jurgens was impressed by the star power on the LSU sidelines. New York Giants All-Pro Odell Beckham Jr. was one of a few former Tigers in attendance.

“The atmosphere down at LSU for a night game was loud and exciting,” Jurgens said. “It is a great environment to play football. … I enjoyed seeing the program and how successful players are that go there. The team feel was really family-based and friendly.”

Jurgens — The World-Herald’s reigning Athlete of the Year and No. 1-ranked player in the NebHSRecruiting rankings — is being pursued by LSU as a tight end.

“It is really a program that I think I can fit into,” Jurgens said. “Especially when you look at the system they run offensively.”

Jurgens has been committed to Nebraska since August 2015, the summer entering his sophomore year. He’s still pledged to the Huskers but said he was disappointed to see Riley let go.

“I have all the respect in the world for Mike Riley and will miss him,” Jurgens said. “Coach Riley and (his wife) Dee have been great to me and my family, and I’m sad to see things end.”
