Brownville Dedicates “Heritage Tree”

NEBRASKA CITY – Brownville dedicated its latest piece of art, industry and heritage during the Steamboat Trace Festival on Saturday. The 35-foot tall Heritage Tree was proposed by Brownville Historical Society president Bob Chitwood. Stephanie Fisher recruited the help of Ariens steel cutters and Matt Koeneke produced the 18 sculptures attached to the pole. Mayor Marty Hayes gave the welcome and Lennis Blecha III provided music. Josie Watkins sang the Star Spangled Banner. The tree is modeled after similar civil monuments in Southern Germany called stammbaums. The tree has symbols of Brownville history, including a riverboat, concert hall, civil war cannon and winery.
