Blizzard conditions paralyze Central Nebraska

KEARNEY, NE (Mike Flood / News Channel Nebraska) – Blizzard conditions have paralyzed much of central Nebraska.

This morning in Kearney, hundreds of trucks were sidelined after officials closed Interstate 80 from Kearney to the Wyoming state line. Wind gusts up to 49 miles per hour pelted Buffalo County reducing visibilities and making travel almost impossible.

According to the Kearney Hub, as of last night, Buffalo County had 57 roads that were flooded and dangerous. Emergency managers tell NCN that people were rescued Wednesday from the Wood River near Kearney and from an emergency near Elm Creek.

In total, there were nine water rescues Wednesday.
