Auburn girls, Lourdes boys use strong second halves in victories

AUBURN – Senior Allie Binder hit back-to-back three pointers and the Auburn girls basketball team opened the second half on an 11-0 run and never looked back in their 52-32 win over Lourdes Central Catholic on Tuesday night.

Bulldog junior Ashley Teten led all scorers with 19 points. Sophomore Ivye Meyer led the Knights with 7 points.

Auburn, ranked ninth in this week’s NCN Sports Now rankings, won their sixth-straight game and improve to 11-3. Nebraska City Lourdes drops to 7-6.

Meanwhile in the boys game, early sloppy play on the both sides kept the game close early. Auburn had the lead by two at halftime, 20-18. Lourdes Central Catholic gave up only two points in the final 2:36 of the fourth quarter and pulled away with a 53-43 victory at Auburn High School.

Senior Thomas Ragland had a game-high 15 points, while senior Sam Baumert chipped in 11 points.

Junior Baily Darnell led the Bulldogs with 13 points and freshman Cameron Binder added 10.

The Knights improve to 7-5. The loss snapped a four-game win streak for the Bulldogs. They drop to 7-7.

Both Lourdes teams host Lewiston on Friday. The girls game will be at 6 p.m., followed by the boys game around 8 p.m. News Channel Nebraska will have live coverage of both varsity contests on KNCY 1600 AM, 105.5 FM and ncn21.com.

Auburn remains at home on Friday vs. Johnson County Central in a girls only matchup. The boys team won’t play again until next Tuesday.
