They’re still like a couple of kids.
After several Grammys, a staggering number of hit songs, three children and 20 years of marriage, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill still can’t keep their eyes off each other.
From the moment they took the stage, the country music power couple showed that no one in the sold-out CenturyLink Center was more excited to see them perform than they were about each other.
As they shared the stage Friday night, 14,500 fans watched Hill and McGraw perform hits such as “The Way You Love Me,” “Live Like You Were Dying,” “This Kiss,” “Something Like That,” “Breathe,” “Real Good Man” and so, so, so many others.
Though the pair still have the incredible vocal power, absurdly good looks and cadre of hit songs that made them stars, it was their googly-eyed love for each other that was the most fun to watch.
They praised each other between songs, smiled while the other took a verse and held hands as they performed.
It was adorable.
And most of the show, especially the final few numbers, was incredible.
McGraw and Hill took the stage together, alternating between their respective solo songs (where they backed each other on vocal duties) and dropped in a few of their duets, such as “Break First” and “Speak to a Girl.”
Then McGraw left the stage for Hill to perform smash hits such as “This Kiss” and “Breathe,” the latter of which showed her raw vocal power.
Then she adjourned to let McGraw sing songs such as “Real Good Man” and “Humble and Kind.”
As fun as the cute couple and all their hit songs were, it wasn’t a perfect show. The pair’s talented band has a few too many talents — with up to eight people playing guitars during some songs when two would have been plenty.
The production had an enormous amount of fancy lighting and more lasers than Pink Floyd night at the planetarium, and it was occasionally distracting.
McGraw and Hill performed a few too many ballads back-to-back, making the middle of the show a bit sleepy.
And even though McGraw has a massive number of No. 1 songs, he could have done a better job of including more of them in the set. He skipped over songs such as “The Cowboy in Me,” “The Next Thirty Years” and “Back When” — and some McGraw classics such as “I Like It, I Love It” and “Where the Green Grass Grows” were sadly cut short.
But it all came together in the end when they joined each other onstage again to perform their song “Speak to a Girl,” a swirling duet that saw their voices soaring to incredible heights together.
“That’s my wife!” McGraw exclaimed after the song was finished.
Then Hill and McGraw each walked along the crowd and sang their songs “Mississippi Girl” and “Something Like That,” respectively.
Then for an encore, the couple reappeared onstage to sing “I Need You” into a single microphone.
And to really close the show? A big kiss and a pair of even bigger smiles.
