Ashland Woman Survived By Air Pocket In Submerged Car

GREENWOOD – Cass County Sheriff William Brueggemann reports a Saturday morning water rescue of a woman who crashed into a creek bed. 45-year-old Laura Conroy of Ashland lost control of her Chrysler Sebring on 202nd Street. It crashed into a creek about 25 feet down and came to rest on its top in four feet of water. The vehicle was mostly submerged, but Conroy was able to find an air pocket inside the car, where she remained until was she was located and rescued. Emergency crews from Greenwood and Cass County EMA had to use extrication equipment to rescue Conroy from the vehicle and she was transported by Greenwood rescue to Bryan LGH West in Lincoln with unknown injuries.
