Ansley-Litchfield Girls Basketball Season Ends In Subdistrict Final
The Ansley-Litchfield Spartans saw their girls basketball season come to an end on Thursday night in the final of the D1-9 Subdistrict final. The Spartans entered the game as the top seed in the subdistrict, but an incredible third quarter from the Longhorns of Burwell put the game away.
At halftime, Burwell and Ansley-Litchfield were locked at 16-16. The two teams traded blows throughout the first half. Ansley-Litchfield once again used a balanced offensive attack to remain in the game despite not having a go-to scorer. However, in the third quarter, the leading scorers for Burwell took control.
In the first 1:15 of the second half, Kassi Plock scored 8 points. Plock scored 11 of her 12 points in the third quarter as Burwell burst ahead. Blake Mann, who led the game in scoring with 19, also contributed to the decisive third quarter. By the time the dust settled, Burwell had begun the third quarter with a 24-2 run and put the game away.
In the end, the two teams were tied at halftime, and each scored 8 points in the fourth quarter, but it was the third that decided it. Ansley-Litchfield fell by a score of 51-31. Burwell advances to face Elm Creek in the district final.
