A Mass of Christian Burial for Claris Bernard Coulter, age 80, from Broken Bow, will be Monday, April 17, at 2:00 pm at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Broken Bow. Fr. Gary Coulter, nephew of Claris, officiating. Rosary will be said at 1:30 at the church and public viewing will be from 10:00 am until mass at St.Joseph’s. Govier Brothers are in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are his sister, Shirley (Ed) Terlaje of Agana, Guam; brothers Fr. Larry Coulter of Broken Bow, Bob (Mary) Coulter of Lincoln, and Bill (Reva)Coulter of North Platte, nieces and nephews, cousins and other relatives. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph’s cemetery fund for the upkeep of the cemetery, Custer County Historical Museum or to the donor’s choice.
Claris Bernard Coulter died Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Broken Bow Care in Broken Bow, Ne. Claris was born in Broken Bow on May 22, 1936, the eldest son of Gilbert and Ardella (Kennedy) Coulter. He attended Turner Valley grade school and graduated from Broken Bow High in 1953. After graduation he worked for his father and various local farmers. He moved to Omaha and worked at Offutt Airforce Base for many years. He moved to Hastings, Grand Island, and Lexington working at other jobs. When his mother’s health began to fail, he returned to Broken Bow to care for her until her death. After her death, he continued to live in the family home, keeping it in good repair. He started his own handyman business and did painting and home repair, lawn mowing, and snow removal. He also worked as the maintenance person for St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Claris loved doing crossword puzzles and never passed up a chance to play cards. He was always the first to jump up and clean the table and wash the dishes after a family meal. He always sent beautiful cards to relatives for all special occasions. Claris was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Broken Bow.
Claris was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Ardella, and a niece, Leanna Coulter.
