Boater Safety Requirements

Spring weather is right around the corner, and that means Spring and Summer fishing is on the horizon as well.  The Nebraska Game and Parks commission would like to remind everyone of Nebraska's education requirements for boating.

All operators of personal watercrafts, including Jet Skis, born after Dec. 31st, 1985 must complete a boating safety course.

There are two ways to pass the boating safety course.  To find a schedule for the on-location courses, visit boatsafenebraska.org. There are classes in Broken Bow, Grand Island, Thedford and Kearney among many other locations.

There is also a home-study option that allows participants to download and study material before attending an abbreviated course and testing session.  Be sure to be in possession of the required educational course certificates before operating any watercraft in Nebraska.

The Mid Plains Community College Broken Bow campus offers two classes in town. Sunday, May 7 from 1-4pm and Sunday, June 18 also from 1-4pm. Both classes are Option B, where participants download the information prior to the class and come prepared to take the test. Contact Campus Coordinator Kaci Johnson at 308-872-5259 or johnsonkj@mpcc.edu with questions.
